Somerset Hills YMCA
Saturdays in Motion (SIM) is the longest running recreational program for children with autism in the United States. Autistic children and their families join together at Somerset Hills YMCA two Saturdays each month for two hours of recreation (from 3 – 5 p.m.). Volunteers lead the program, and carefully guide the children through an hour of gym time and a second hour in the pool. Siblings are welcome. This program is free to the community and runs from the fall to the spring. Seeking teenage volunteers to be paired one-on-one to play with the kids while parents enjoy caregiving respite.
Saturdays in Motion will soon be starting its 34th year. This is a recreational program for children living on the autistic spectrum and their families. The Program owes its existence primarily to the generosity of the Greater Somerset County YMCA, and takes place at its Somerset Hills branch in Basking Ridge. We spend time in the Y’s pools and gym rooms.
